What makes Dog City Training Center different from most of the other training facilities out there?
Our instructors at DCTC use Positive Reinforcement Training rather than the older style “compulsion” training. There are no leash pops, choke chains, pinch collars, or verbal reprimands used in training at Dog City.
We teach the dogs by “capturing” and “shaping” behaviors. Consequently, our dogs learn to “think” and make conscious decisions about their behavior. Initially we make the correct choice for the dog quite easy, and then gradually we make it a bit more difficult.
What is Positive Reinforcement Training?
In a nutshell – behaviors that are rewarded tend to be repeated, and behaviors that are not, tend to fade away. Of course, it’s not quite that simple, but that’s where it starts.
I’ve seen dog agility on TV. Do you have classes for that?
Yes – we have a variety of agility classes available, with 3 different instructors. See below for more class information.
What kind of classes do you have at Dog City Training Center?
We have a wide variety of classes – Basic Manners, Agility (where you and your dog run an obstacle course of sorts), Flyball (where your dog runs on a relay team jumping over jumps to get a ball and runs back), Hollywood Dog (learn what your dog needs to know to be in commercials or print ads), Freestyle (dancing with your dog), Puppy Class, Rally Obedience (an up and coming combination obedience/agility sport) and more.
Go to: “Classes and Registration” to see the complete list of classes available.
I’ve looked at your class list, and want to jump in. Where do I start?
EVERYONE AT DOG CITY TRAINING CENTER STARTS WITH ORIENTATION. That session will teach you about how we train; why we train that way; and how it works. Orientation is a people only session – unless the instructor specifically asks you to bring your dog.
I think I would prefer one-on-one attention. Can I get private lessons at Dog City Training Center? How about in-home training?
YES – we sure do. We have something new called APL’s (Accelerated Private Lessons). You get 20 minutes with a trainer for $20.00. Most folks love them – it’s affordable for everyone, and 20 minutes is a nice length of time for your dog. We always want to leave him “wanting more” and these sessions are perfect for that. You can work on what YOU want to work on, and schedule it when it’s convenient for you.
Private In-Home Lessons are also available through Dog City Training Center. Please call to schedule an appointment or get more information.
Do you have memberships at Dog City Training Center?
Yes we do. Memberships are currently $25 a month.
By becoming a member you will have free use of the facility (during open hours) when classes are not in session. Call us to schedule your time.
You will get a 10% discount on all seminars hosted by DCTC, and will be able to attend fun matches for free.
