Flyball workshop:
Flyball is a dog sport in which two teams of four dogs race against each other and the clock. The race is composed of heats in which each of these four dogs are required to jump four hurdles, trigger a box that deploys a ball, catch the ball and then retrieve the ball over the hurdles to the start line successfully and in order. Dogs that excel at this sport are energetic, focused, and have the desire to retrieve, but any dog can play. Any size breed and mixed breeds are welcome.
In this workshop, Traci Murdock teaches the principles of motivation without force and technical aspects of the sport, including sequence jumping, ball retrieval, and proper box turns. Dogs should have a working knowledge of the basic obedience commands to participate. This is a one-day workshop.
Intermediate Flyball - 6 Week Class:
In this class, Traci Murdock continues to teach the technical aspects of the sport, including sequence jumping, ball retrieval, and proper box turns. Dogs in this class will progress to full runs and box turns, learn passing and handling techniques and be evaluated for inclusion in tournament activities. This is a 6 week class and dogs will come to all classes.

Treibball Beginner:
This has been described as ‘herding balls’. This is not entirely accurate, but gives you an idea of what this up and coming sport is all about. Invented in Germany and just now making its way to the USA. Eight exercise balls are on the field, the dog is sent out to face the handler on the other side of the balls. When given the signal, the dog drives the balls, one by one back to the handler and puts them in a goal. This is a timed event with points taken off for handling errors, etc. This is a great sport for all dogs, large and small. Need not be of a herding breed.
Doga:
Because dogs are pack animals, they are a natural match for yoga’s emphasis is on union and connection with other beings.
DOGA poses for dogs are focused on massage and stretching thus improving heart and digestion functions. DOGA is for stress reduction and bonding time for both owner and pet. DOGA also includes meditation and breathing techniques for deep relaxation and deep connection.
DOGA is about taking care of our pets and taking care of ourselves. It’s about sharing your practice with your pet, like a partners yoga class, there is not a pose that cannot be incorporated. Not intended to trivialize yoga an ancient practice but to offer a practice to those who may not have tried yoga at all.
Class length is 60-75 minutes. DOGA class consists of breathing, postures, stretching, massage and relaxation. Postures will be introduced a few per class with review each week. Keep dogs on a leash at first and keep them near the mat. Everyone has a different size pet, it’s about you and your dog, so modify for you. Do not hurt yourself or your pet – this is a gentle practice. There is a lot of massaging and light stretches, relaxing and bonding. You can view sample YouTube videos of DOGA at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zi4K8ebGts8&feature=relmfu
Patio Paws:
More and more restaurants are allowing dogs to join their owners for drinks and dining. Sounds great, right? But what if your dog doesn’t have the self-restraint to “leave it” when the baby at the next table drops her binky under Rover’s nose? Or what happens when the 7 year-old girl sitting two tables away keeps tossing steak to Spot? If you and your dog want to learn these manners plus more, this is the right class for you!
If you have any questions regarding this class, please contact Lesa Truax at lesa@lesatruax.com or 469-733-2298.
The Nose at Work:
How well does your dog's nose work? To find out, come join us in this introduction to scent work and let your dog do what he does naturally - use his nose, in a safe indoor environment. This class will focus on finding food in and around objects, with an additional scent introduced at the end of the course. No prior training is needed to participate. We request that all dogs be crated when it is not their turn to work. Crates will be available on a first come, first served basis, so you may want to bring one as a backup. Please have your dog work on a different collar than they normally use for obedience, or loose leash walking. If your dog has never worn a harness, this might be a good time to try one. We don't want to discourage the dog from pulling (while he is searching) in any way. Please bring lots of small pieces of a high value food reward, and your dog's favorite toy. This class is limited to 6 working teams. If the class fills, please ask to be put on the waiting list, and we will schedule an additional class. If you have ANY questions regarding this class, please contact Mickey at fourpawstrainer@yahoo.com or 469-323-4143.
Agility JUST FOR FUN:
This class is JUST FOR FUN. Not for anyone that is serious about competing in agility with their dog. We will be working on jumps, a low dog walk, tunnels, etc. It would be nice if your dog will come when you call them, and will sit and stay, but not absolutely necessary. This will be a fun time with you and your dog. This is a 6-week class to introduce all the obstacles.
Basic Family Manners:
This is a 6-week class for owners with dogs that have had no previous training experience. We will be starting at "square one", but will move ahead on exercises to each individual dog's level. Adopted dogs coming in may have had previous training and may actually be able to move along at a quick pace. We will take each dog into account on the level of difficulty. Behaviors covered will be: Come (Recall), Sit/stay, Down/stay, Walking nicely on a leash, Leave It, Target, Door Manners and any particular behavior that you have at home that you'd like to modify. We will also cover "free shaping". Free shaping is what we use to keep the dog's mind active and to 'offer' behavior. Once the dog understands the 'game' of free shaping, the sky is the limit to what we can teach the dog to do. Limit in this class is 8 dogs.
Basic Family Manners II:
Take your pup's training to the next level! We will cover door manners, stays and comes with distance and distractions and much more!
Impulse Control 101:
This class is for EVERY dog. All dogs need to learn to think before they do. We like them to do the thinking so we don't need to do the nagging. We will be working on door manners (crate and door ways) as well as walking nicely on leash. The human will think differently after this class too!
Accelerated Private Lessons (APLs):
We have recently introduced our Accelerated Private Lessons. We've come up with this concept for owners with dogs that have never come to class and might be too distracted in the class setting to focus, if you are waiting on a class to start, or you'd like a more personal attention . These are quick 20 minute sessions for the same price as a group class - $20 (or $1 per minute) if purchased in blocks of 4. If paying individually, the price is $22 per class. You get private instruction to work on the specific behaviors that are the most pressing for you and your dog. It is unrealistic to ask our dogs to "work" for an hour and the 20 minute sessions are just right to come in, get busy and get quick results. These sessions are scheduled according to your time frame. (In order to keep prices low, we must adhere to a strict time limit. Twenty minutes must be the full session length. Lessons must be purchased in advance and there is a no cancellation policy. Lessons can be rescheduled, but payment will be processed for each lesson booked.) APL's can be schedule with most of our instructors. Let us know if you are interested in this option at any time.
CGC Prep:
"AKC’s Canine Good Citizen® (CGC) Program is a certification program that is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The CGC Program stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club.
The CGC Program lays the foundation for other activities such as therapy dog work, obedience, agility, tracking, and performance events."
Basic Obedience - 6 Week Class:
Here’s a chance to work on your dog's obedience and/or issues. Come out and join the fun - yes, fun! - as we work on your pup's skills and manners and solve those training challenges! This will be an upbeat and rocking class that will address the basics - control, attention and focus, and any throw-your-hands-up problems that you might have. We will also work on mastering the exercises that make up the Canine Good Citizen test.
This is a 6 week class - the first week's class will be without dogs.
Intermediate Obedience - 6 Week Class:
In Intermediate classes we continue to work on your dog's obedience and/or issues.
Come out and join the fun - yes, fun! - as we work on your dog's skills and manners and solve those training challenges!
This will be an upbeat and rocking class that will continue to work on control, attention and focus, and any throw-your-hands-up problems that you might have, and start your dog on the road to off-lead obedience. You will learn ways to train from other dog-related activities to increase your dog's focus and skills and have a blast while you're doing it. This will also give you a head start when you start training for Agility, Flyball, Rally, Freestyle, Competition Obedience, or anything other activity that you want to participate in.
Your dog must have graduated from the Basic Obedience class at DCTC or be evaluated by the instructor to attend Intermediate Obedience. Contact Traci at TAMIam@training-spot.net for evaluations.
This is a 6 week class and dogs come to all classes.
Hollywood DogTM 6 Week Class:
Lights, Camera, Action!
So You Think Fido Has What It Takes To Be A Star?
Is your dog just waiting to be discovered? Are you convinced he’s cuter, smarter, and more talented then all those dogs you see in the movies or in ads?
Then meet Traci Murdock, a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA), photographer, Talent Scout and Wrangler, and much more. Traci uses all these talents to teach dog owners the skills their dogs need to break into show business.
Traci used her own experiences as a wrangler and in getting her dogs exposed to the business of canine acting to create Hollywood Dog classes, which teach the most common skills and tricks that producers ask for and how to quickly train your dog for a new trick if it's required on set. Class attendees also learn how to send their dogs to a mark to perform, practice working for others, and learn how to build new tricks from known commands. Traci also provides some talent agent contacts and conducts a photo session during the last class so that graduates get some set experience and will have head shots to send out.

COME!!:
This Class is the Ultimate "Call your dog once and they come running" class. If you would like a reliable recall from your dog and it is just not there, then this is the class for you. You will need to muster up some ENTHUSIASM! You will need to be VALUABLE to your dog. Your dog will need to KNOW that you are FUN!
This class is divided into two segments: Part A and Part B
Part A is 5 weeks long and dogs are not present at class number 1, which is roughly an hour long. We will explain the course, answer any questions and you will be viewing a DVD that is roughly 25 minutes. The remaining 4 classes in Part A are private lessons focusing on only your dog. These are accelerated private lessons, are 20 minutes long and are booked according to your schedule. During these 4 lessons, we will practice 2 or 3 exercises that you will work on at home.
Part B is 4 weeks long and dogs are present at all classes. Part B will be a group class composed of other Part A ‘graduates’.
Registration must be in advance and there are no refunds once scheduled.
There WILL be homework and lots of it. You will need to be able to spend quality time with your dog daily.
Be prepared to have a dog that loves you and loves to be with you at week 9.
Introduction to Competitive Novice Obedience:
This is a basic beginner level course for people that plan to show their dogs. This class will focus on the basics of attention and all aspects of heeling work. The emphasis will be on fun games using food, toys and praise to keep the dog and handler motivated. The goal will be to produce a dog eager to solve the puzzle and obtain the reward. This will be a no stress, no leash correction class appropriate for dogs 6 months or older. Clicker use is a must! Dogs previously trained with other methods are welcome.
Novice Polishing:
The on-going polishing class (fee paid on a monthly basis) is for those that have completed the six week Intro class. This class will prepare the student for exhibiting in the AKC Beginner Novice and Novice classes. We will perfect the required exercises and study the AKC rules and regulations. The last class of every month will be a practice "run through" for each dog/handler team similar to a show & go.
2x2 Weave Poles:
The 2x2 Weave class is based on Susan Garrett’s fabulous method of weave pole training. Dogs learn to weave 2 poles at a time, stressing correct entry from every angle, using just one set of poles, before progressing on.
This is a 4 week class. Class limit: 3 dog and handler teams. If we have sufficient interest we will start a waiting list.
Dogs should be familiar with “shaping” and/or offering behaviors.
WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU HAVE A SET OF 2X2 WEAVE POLES. Dogs will need to practice on a regular basis, not just once a week at class. If you don’t have a set you can purchase them from us.
Bring to class: a hungry dog; a million tiny, yummy treats; and a special toy or tug that your dog loves to play with.
Private Instruction:
For folks that want the extra attention of one-on-one training. Focuses on general clicker work, basic manners, and any problems you might be having.
Agility for Reactive Dogs:
This small group class is designed as a continuation of Traci Murdock's Reactive Dog class, therefore each dog must be evaluated by Traci Murdock prior to signing up for this class. Classes are structured for each dog's individual problem so they can move into a regular group agility class when they are ready.
Agility Foundations:
This eight week class is used to teach dogs and handlers foundation behaviors needed to succeed in the sport of agility. This class is for dogs and handlers of all ages and skill levels. Dog/Handler teams learn skills such as clicker training, shaping, crate games, loose leash walking, sit, stay, down, come, nose touch, circle work, and tug. Dogs will also be introduced to beginner agility obstacles such as the tunnel, wobble board and jumps. All dogs must pass the final exam before continuing to ongoing agility classes. Handlers must have attended the Introduction to Positive Training class. Contact Michelle del Carpio to be placed the on waiting list for the next available class.
Ongoing Agility Classes:
Ongoing Agility Classes are for dogs that have completed Agility Foundations or have had a placement evaluation. Ongoing classes allow dog and handler teams to practice in a weekly class environment and be faced with new challenging courses and exercises every week. Handlers must have attended the Introduction to Positive Training class and dogs must have a placement evaluation. Contact Michelle del Carpio to schedule an evaluation.
VERY Beginner Agility:
This class is for dogs at least 12 months of age that are brand new to the sport of agility. We will be teaching the basics of all of the obstacles.
Pre-requisite for this class is pre-approval by Paula. The dog must be clicker 'saavy' and know how to 'shape' or offer behavior. Recalls don't need to be perfect, but you DO need to be relevant to your dog ;-) We will be working on recalls in class. A start on a stay is also a good thing...
If you would like to join this 8-week class, please contact Paula at info@dogcitytrainingcenter.com
Starter's Agility:
Introduction to handling and obstacles. Starters agility class is for those dogs that have completed Paula's Pre-Agility, or have tested into Starters agility classes.
Intermediate Agility:
Intermediate agility class is for those dogs that have completed Beginners' Agility, or have tested into Intermediate agility classes. This is a full course broken into small sequences/skill sets, with focus on increasing speed and proficiency on obstacles.
High-Drive Masters/Excellent Agility:
In this class, dogs & handlers are tested at the highest level, for performance of obstacles and course execution. We train things in this class that are much more challenging than anything you will ever see at a show, so no matter what course is thrown at you, you will be able to complete it without a problem. To be eligible for this class, you need not be competing, but competition experience is a plus. Approval by the instructor is a requirement for entry into this class.
Contact Rehab Workshop:
Whether you have stopped or moving contacts, this class will be individually tailored to each dog/handler to teach to help speed up, and improve the accuracy of your contact performance. Focus will be on independent obstacle performance, with training tips for how to improve between classes.
Weaving Woes Workshop:
Does your dog weave at home but not in a show? On your right side but not your left? Only if you are next to them and talking to them? Does your dog often times miss entrances to weaves, or always pop the 10th pole? This bi-monthly workshop is for you. We will proof weave performances, entries, gain speed, and take YOU out of the picture so that your dog can weave anywhere, anytime, in any situation. Tailored to each dog/handler. Does not matter how your dog was initially trained on weaves, we can work with a number of methods to improve your dog's performance.
FUNGILITY:
This is a FUN class for any dog, any size, any age and is fun for the whole family, kids are welcome to come and help! No obedience skills – no problem! Even though class is held indoors - all dogs will stay on leash. We will teach you all of the skills you need to run the course. There are no requirements for this class other than current shot records. During the 6-week class, we will teach you how to motivate your dog around distractions, build confident handling skills, build confidence in your dog and this class is a wonderful bonding experience for human and dog!
SUPER PUPPY:
For experienced agility handlers training their 2nd/3rd/4th (you get the idea!) agility dog. The focus of this class will be in teaching handlers to successfully work around agility obstacles, steering your puppy between handler/obstacle focus, getting impulse control and speed & confidence from the pups. This class will help to make you and your new agility dog a SUPER team!
Introduction To Positive Training (IPT):
This class is a prerequisite for anyone that has not previously trained at DCTC. We will introduce the use of a "clicker" as a marker, and discuss using "shaping" as a training tool. We will touch upon nutrition. We will also guide you on what class is best suited for you, based on your specific needs. This class will give you the tools and tips to get you training your dog as soon as you get home. This class is for 'humans' only.
Tiny Pups:
Tiny Pups Class is geared for small breed dogs under 15 pounds. Communication and training with your small dog is fun and necessary. Small dogs need to know the same behaviors as their larger dog friends, as well as some that are specific to their small size. Your dog will be much easier to live with after the communication door is opened. Covered in this class is Sit, Down, Come, Stand to be Lifted, Polite Walking, and Targeting.
Puppy Headstart:
The first class will be IPT- HUMANS ONLY - We will learn just what we will be doing in class, what we will cover, and HOW we will train your pup to be a willing training partner and a THINKING dog! Of course, the pups will come to the remaining 5 classes....We use NO choke chains, NO prong collars, No corrections - they are not necessary when training with positive reinforcement. Many trainers still use the antiquated punishment/reward method of training. How confusing is THAT to the dog? If I do X, am I going to be punished or praised!! I'm hoping that you got your dog to be a member of your family and want him to be comfortable in your home and to love interacting with you and with ALL people and dogs. Socialization is a huge part of our curriculum - both with people and with other nice dogs. We want your pup to be a confident and friendly dog when he grows up;-) You will learn to train your puppy to do ANYTHING they are physically able to do. A prepayment will be required to attend class to make sure that we have enough pups to start the class. If there is a question about missed classes, please call Paula to discuss.
Next Step for Puppies:
This is the "next step" after Puppy Headstart. We cover everyday nice manners kind of behaviors as well as some fun tricks. We will be using games to make this class fun for mom, dad, & puppy. An added extra to this class is the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy test on week 6. This class is for puppies 5 months to 8 months. This is the class after Puppy Headstart. We will also accept puppies from other puppy classes or by permission of the instructor.
CaNiNe Games Night:
This will be a fun night of play with our dogs. The dogs need to be "dog friendly" and know just BASIC skills!!!!! There are a few games that require more secondary skills, but you can watch and learn, but most of the games are for dogs that know everyday skills like sit, down, stay and come.
Because of space restrictions we will need to limit attendees for this popular and FUN event. In order to keep attendees to a realistic level, there will be a charge of $10 in ADVANCE for the full night of FUN! Please register on the DCTC Registrations Page.
Game Night for Humans:
What's more fun than activities with your dog?? We think that Game Night with other dog lovers would trail right after that!!!
There will be no charge to attend. If we decide to order pizza or something, we may take up a donation.
This will be from 7pm - midnight! We will be playing games of all kinds...We will start off with the SHAPING GAME! and then will play card games, board games, maybe set up some puzzles....who knows?
It might be a good idea to change "game tables" each hour. You will start out at one table playing something and at the top of the hour....we all switch tables. That way we can all meet new people and have a wider range of friends!!!
Please RSVP if you'd like to come to our SECOND games night.
If you have a fun game, let us know what you will be bringing AND if you can bring a card table, we might need that too.
Come on out, meet new 'dog' people and be ready to have a fun night. If you 'd like to pass the word around, you are welcome to bring other friends. The more the merrier!
If you have any questions or comments, please email us at info@dogcitytrainingcenter.com
Please bring your own DRINKS:-) AND A CHAIR!!!!! and you are welcome to bring some snacks.
